17 teams
We had 17 teams competing, from schools such as BLS, Trumacar, Grosvenor Park, Great Wood, Westgate, Lancaster Road, Sandylands, West End, Overton St Helens and St Peters. All the participants were amazing, thanks to everyone getting involved.
The teams were split into four groups, with the top team in each group qualifying for the Semi-Finals. The groups was topped by Sandylands Hurricanes, Slyne Predators, Westgate Panthers and St Peters Sharks. BLS Coyotes had to have a playoff match with Westgate Panthers to see who qualified, with Westgate coming out on top on penalties.
This theme contiuned when both semi finals went to sudden death extra time, and then penalties, very exciting. Slyne Predators and St Peters Sharks managed to get through, thus playing in the final. Leaving Westgate Panthers and Sandylands Hurricanes battling it out for Bronze medals in the 3rd/4th Playoff match.
In a tight match, Sandylands Hurricanes won the Bronze medals beating Westgate Panthers 2-1.
The final was even tighter, between two competitive teams, posts were hit, one on ones were missed so it went to extra time, and then Golden Goal extra time. With penalties looming again and with a minute to go, Slyne Predators pressure told, after some defenseive heroics by St Peters, Slyne scored the winning goal to claim victory, and St Peters winning Silver.
Special mention to St Peters player who won the tournaments Star Award. In a fanstastic display of sportsmanship, in the final, there was questions whether the winning goal hit a foot and went in. This young man told everyone that it struck his stick and went in and the goal was fair. Outstanding.
Thanks to Bay Leadership Academy for hosting and providing amazing Sports Leaders who umpired the event. Thanks to everyone involved.
